| On 4th and 7th September 2018 Health People Rwanda has resumed the teaching sessions in high schools as it has been done since 1 year ago under the project called "Road safety and first Aid Initiative" . The teaching sessions were conducted at Groupe Scolaire Saint Famille and Groupe Scholaire Ndera . GS St Famille is located near Round point in Kigali city like 200 meters from chez Rubangura. While GS Ndera is Located near Ndera Neuropsychiatric Hospital. |
It was carried out by Nkumbuye Ami, Dr Marcel , Dr Raban and Kwizera Jean Rene ( HPR volunteers) where students from health club in both schools to whom teaching sessions are intended to were very happy to receive the HPR volunteers.
. At the beginning the students were not understanding why we do they have to teach them about road safety yet they always cross the road everyday. As the session goes on where the HPR Volunteers showed them that morbidity and mortality due Road Traffic accident occur in younger around 15-29 years old than old people and most of the time these accident are caused by bad behaviour of road users which can be changed. The sessions of the day were more focusing on teaching them different traffic signs , and good behaviour that all road users should have to reduce accidents and morbidity related to them like use of seat belt while you are driving, helmet use when on motorcycle which they understood well showing them the demonstration about use of helmet as you will see in short video at the end of this paper.
At the end of the session the students were very happy for the talk given and said that they learnt a lot of lessons which are useful in their daily life. As an example HPR volunteer asked Richard (one of the student from health club at GS St Famille) " Richard have you learnt something new about road safety? " he replied " I am so excited about today session many days I used to come at school late then I take moto just to come early then forget to put on helmet after seeing that experiment I will tell everybody in my community to put on helmet just to reduce those morbidity and mortality caused by road traffic accident that you taught us today, thank you very much"
The HPR volunteers ended they day by explaining to students that the next teaching sessions will focus on what they students can do in case of different accidents.
