This week activities of HPR were remarked by training session of motorcyclist from three districts of City of Kigali on road safety and First Aid where 1500 motorcyclists were trained. This training was aimed to raise more awareness on traffic regulations, behavior change and teaching them simple first aid skills. It was organized by Rwanda National Police, in partnership with Healthy People Rwanda,  Special Guarantee Fund, and  FERWACOTAMO ( Federation Rwandaise des Conducteurs de Taxi Moto).
This education campaign of three days started on Tuesday with 500 moto drivers from Gasabo district,

this was followed by 500 motocyclists operating in Kicukiro and finally 500 motoclyclysts operating in Nyarugenge district. The training mainly focused on behavior change and proper road use by motorcyclist. HPR started campaign showing the bad statistics including mortality and morbidity related to traffic crashes yet most of them are preventable. Apart from road Safety, HPR also train motorcyclist about how they can provide first Aid  including: recovery position, stopping bleeding, stabilizing fracture and burn especially in case of road crashes.
The Spokesperson for traffic PoliceSSP Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, , while addressing to  to motorcyclists said that “ according to the statistics between January and March this year 40 people (moto drivers and passengers) have died in motorcycles crashes , 120 were severely injured and 243 had minor injury due to careless and deadly maneuvers, alcohol abuse and Over-speeding “

He continue “The aim of this campaign is to build a robust capability of riders, change their bad behaviors to counter and eliminate the menace of road safety regulation abuses”
“I urge all of you to adhere to the road safety standards because by not doing so, you will be endangering your lives and those of other road users”
Dr Innocent Nzeyimana CEO of Healthy People Rwanda said that “After realizing how Road traffic crashes continue to be major problem not only in Rwanda but also worldwide. HPR took initiative to teach road safety among the road users. That’s why we come here as motorcycles remain a major cause or involve in fatal accidents”
“As doctors we also realized that after crashes happened if we  teach them about first aid skills  they can save a life of someone who got injured by accidents. For example some ne who is bleeding it can take 10 to 15 for ambulance to come at that time the life of someone who is bleeding can be in danger while waiting for ambulance. That’s why we are teaching them how they can provide first aid while waiting for specialized service or to reach the health facility. Daniel Ngarambe, the president of FERWACOTAMO, said that there about 18,000 commercial motorcyclists in Kigali City alone, and That all of them will go through this kind of training and then the training will be extended to the whole country.
At the end of education campaign 1500 motorcyclists awarded certificate for attending training session.
