On the 12th August each year, the whole world celebrates the world Youth day. International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000. It is observed annually on 12 August. It is meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. |
. During IYD, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world. At national (Rwanda) level the celebration took place at Kayonza district, Mwiri Sector, Nyamugari cell and the them of this year is “Safe Spaces for Youth”.
The official event was attended by different guests including: Hon Minister of Youth, ONE UN RC, UNDP Representative, Governor East, Mayor and Vice Mayor of Kayonza District, Army, Rwanda National Police, Health people Rwanda (HPR), DOT Delegation, VSO Delegation
Health People Rwanda perceived this as a call to volunteer on this special day in order to increase awareness of Non Communicable Diseases, screening of hypertension and obesity also has been done in objective to reduce the morbidity of NCDs which is a public health issue. , Teaching people about sexual reproductive health in order to reduce unwanted pregnancies in Rwandan youth as this is also a problem for our country.

All activities were scheduled in morning and afternoon and started by doing UMUGANDA in Nyamugari Play ground then After around 10:00 AM the official event started where many activities was done including:

The event was marked by testimonies, poems, theatres, different speeches which aimed to empower Youth.
After the speech from the different leaders, Dr Innocent Nzeyimana, HPR vice president recognized the presence of everyone in the event and tucked on every single work done by organizing committee in the preparation of the event.
His speech was emphasized by the two invited inspiring Youth tried to caution us how we can preserve our lives as youth from their testimonies, and also gave hope to other people who live with Non communicable disease. He described fully the bad impact of NCDs on a person individually, in the society and the country as a whole. He ended their by encouraging the youth on being cautious with their lives.
The Minister of Youth urged youth to participate in parliamentary polls.You should go to vote for leaders of your choice, but you should also look for votes, because you too have your platform; youth vote for two people to represent them in the parliament,” the Minister for Youth, Rosemary Mbabazi, told the youth. She also emphasized on using the social medias for constructive purpose not for fraud.Kayonza citizens displayed a good behavior and showed commitment to attend the Event. On behalf of the International Youth organizers, HPR is expressing its great gratitude to all attendees and partners who made this event more memorable.
