The road crash related fatalities and injuries are among the top public health problems worldwide. There are facts around this: the number of annual fatalities caused by road traffic crashes had reached 1.35 million according to global status report on Road Safety 2018, injuries related to road crashes are the leading cause of death among people aged 5-29.  Youth for Road Safety (YOURS) has seen this and took initiative to gather 200 young road safety delegates from 74 countries across the world for the 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety

3rd Ministerial conference on Road Safety under the theme of “Achieving Global Goals 2030”

​Third ministerial conference for road safety officially started today under theme of “achieving global goals 2030”. It was organized by the government of Sweden together with the World Health Organization and was attended by about 1700 delegates from 140 countries, including Ministers, senior officials from United Nations agencies and representatives from civial society, academia and private sector. We are thrilled that two of our members are among the participants.

UWIMANA Jean Berchmans, MD candidate, facilitator of Medical Students for Choice at The University of Rwanda and program coordinator of Healthy people Rwanda is selected to participate in Rise Up’s Youth Champions Initiative to foster innovation and quality in sexual and reproductive rights and health worldwide


UWIMANA Jean Berchmans is one of 22 youth leaders from around the globe selected to join Rise Up’s third cohort of Youth Champions for sexual and reproductive rights, health, and justice. The Youth Champions Initiative (YCI) is a program of Rise Up, a leader in the global gender equity movement, supported by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

52-week campaign launched as fight against road accidents intensifies

Healthy People Rwanda has joined other partners in a 52-week National road safety campaign that aims to promote road safety amid rather alarming rates of road mortality in the country.
The campaign dubbed “GerayoAmaharo” was initiated on May 13th and activities to mark its beginning wererolled out in major Taxi Parks across the country. Many people held placards that carried various messages with a common and strong call upon everyone to do their part to make roads safe. It is also being ca
rried out on social networks with the Hashtags #GerayoAmahoro and #ArriveSafe.

HPR trained Moto drivers in the City of Kigali

This week activities of HPR were remarked by training session of motorcyclist from three districts of City of Kigali on road safety and First Aid where 1500 motorcyclists were trained. This training was aimed to raise more awareness on traffic regulations, behavior change and teaching them simple first aid skills. It was organized by Rwanda National Police, in partnership with Healthy People Rwanda,  Special Guarantee Fund, and  FERWACOTAMO ( Federation Rwandaise des Conducteurs de Taxi Moto).
This education campaign of three days started on Tuesday with 500 moto drivers from Gasabo district, ​

HPR signs Memorandum of Understanding with Rwanda National Police focusing on Road Safety

​Today April 4, 2019 at Police headquarter HPR signed the MoU with Rwanda National Police focusing in the area of Road safety, first aid, exchange of information and research in the same field. 
This partnership agreement is intending to promote the Road safety and first aid in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality related to road traffic crashes. The agreement aim at generating tools and interventions for Road safety and First aid to ensure healthy and prosperous communities in Rwanda through evidence based practice.

HPR AND STUDENTS FROM GS KIVUGIZA GATHERED FOR ROAD SAFETY AND FIRST AID CAMPAIGN

On  very warm and beautiful sunny day,in the afternoon of Wednesday  27th March  2019,where HPR ( Health People Rwanda) members together with the students from GS Kivugiza  gathered at playground GS Kivugiza near Nyamirambo (a pretty diverse and stretched-out neighbourhood, encompassing the southwestern corner of Kigali.) for Road Safety and First Aid campaign.

Around 3:30pm the majority of student had arrived. After everyone having a fan with music before campaign
